After leaving the doctor's office twenty-one years ago, we sat down in the car, and I said, “Son, we will not let this Asperger's/Autism diagnosis beat us.” Mom will learn how to support you in every way from reading books, workshops, conferences, resources for social skills therapy, sharing with extended family members, focusing on his strengths, and embracing his differences. That is exactly what I have done for the last 22 years. I have truly been his advocate and will continue to be. This is a lifetime commitment.

Today at age 32, my son has taught me so much about life and has graduated with his PhD in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering from Georgia Tech. Kelvin is working as a Senior Data Scientist where his gifts and talents are nurtured.  

KL Speaks began with a simple belief: students and families deserve support that is practical, encouraging, and centered on their real lives.

As a mother and advocate, I have seen how confusing the path to independence, college, career, and adulthood can feel—especially when families are trying to navigate systems, expectations, and decisions without enough clear guidance.

I created KL Speaks to help families, students, educators, and community partners build confidence, strengthen self-advocacy, and prepare for what comes next. This is family-led work, built with my son, and rooted in the belief that every person has strengths, a voice, and a future worth investing in.
